“We not only need to know how to mine and smelt metals, but also need to learn how to use the smelted metal materials to develop and break through new material equipment.” Yesterday, at the 2013 Titanium Industry Forum held in Yun’an Huidu, Wang Yiguo, the director of the Industrial Department of the Yunnan Provincial Economic and Information Commission, conducted a deep analysis of the titanium industry development and pointed out the development direction. More than 150 representatives and experts from the titanium mining industry from home and abroad who attended the event also discussed and exchanged views on the development of the titanium industry.

This meeting brought together many well-known enterprises from within the province, as well as medium and large-sized enterprises from Sichuan, Chongqing, Shanghai and Hainan. What is worth noting is that there was also a delegation from an Australian titanium mine enterprise.

Wang Yiguo detailedly presented at the meeting the development and changes of the titanium industry in Yunnan Province from its inception to its rapid growth, as well as the regional advantages of the titanium industry in Yunnan.

“Yunnan is a region with relatively abundant titanium resources. I believe that through the efforts of the next three years after the ’12th Five-Year Plan’, the titanium industry’s production chain will be further fully extended, truly establishing Yunnan’s influence as a titanium industrial base both domestically and globally,” emphasized Wang Yiguo. “We should completely change the past. Not only should we mine and smelt titanium, but we should also learn to utilize the metal materials produced from smelting to develop and break through new materials equipment.” He hopes that entrepreneurs engaged in the titanium industry in Yunnan should firmly maintain their development confidence. “Titanium is a minor metal. We need to turn it into a major industry. By integrating rare minor metals, we will create a new blue sky for the development of Yunnan’s industrial economy.”

Pan Yang, the president of the Yunnan Titanium Industry Association, introduced that this forum was the first time to introduce high-quality Australian minerals to Yunnan. It will cooperate with the 4th largest mining company in Australia, AIR, to build a production base with an annual output of 300,000 tons of titanium ore. The project will officially start construction on March 1st. At the same time, he also mentioned that the most fundamental point for the development of the titanium industry is to be measured by scientific and technological innovation and sustainable development. The next work plan is to establish the provincial-level enterprise technology center first in the province and accelerate the pace of new product development.

Pan Feng, the secretary-general of the Titanium Industry Association of Yunnan Province, introduced that this forum summit was the first to conduct large-scale discussions on domestic and international resource policies and titanium resource integration. The focus was on discussing the future development path of the titanium industry, guiding more titanium mining enterprises to go abroad, and striving to achieve the vision and goal of the Yunnan titanium industry to go beyond Yunnan and reach the world.
